BoostSolutions’ Password Change & Expiration allows users to change their own passwords from SharePoint without administrator intervention. This product also has sending expiration notification emails to warn users before their passwords expire, sending confirmation emails after users have successfully changed their passwords and other features. One of the features is customizing the error messages that user will receive when they try to change their password.
The error messages began appearing as we customized them to.
The web part is added to the SharePoint site. For this article we added it to the site page called Password Change and Expiration. You can check our other article to get more information on how to add the web part.
Download the trial version of Password Change & Expiration and install it to your SharePoint server.
Navigate to the Site page created above.
Find Site Settings menu on upper right corner and click on Edit Page.

You will see the web part changed to edit mode after clicking on Edit Page.

Next step, click on small black triangle on the right side of the web part, next to the check box. After clicking you will see the drop down menu appear.

Click on the Edit Web Part option.

Following Password Change Web Part Configuration table will appear under the web part after clicking on the option.


We will also see the Configuration settings box appear on the right side of the page.

Now let’s make changes on some of the error messages and test if they appear correctly. To customize the error messages we need to click on Edit… on the right side of the listed error message. Let’s make changes to The specified domain does not exist or cannot be contacted error message. The following window will appear when we click on Edit… button.


Now, let’s edit the message as following and click Save.

You will see the result after saving the changes.

Navigate to configuration settings box and click on OK or Apply buttons. Then go to FORMAT TEXT tab on the ribbon. Find Save button in Edit group and click on it to save the changes.



Now let’s try to change the password but fill it wrong to get the same error message. Fill in Current Password, New Password and Confirm New Password boxes, and click Change Password.

As you can see the error message changed as following.

Now let’s repeat the steps 3,4,5,6. Make changes to the The password does not meet the password complexity policy requirements error message. Again click on Edit… button in front of the error message to customize it.

After clicking the following window will appear. Let’s make edit the message and click Save.


You will see the result after saving the changes.

Repeat the step 11 and log in as another user and try to change the password. We will log in as Denise Brooke, fill in Current Password, New Password and Confirm New Password boxes, and click Change Password. Of course will fill in the password that doesn’t meet the policy. The result will as following.
