How to exclude users from receiving password expiration notifications emails?

SharePoint Password Change & Expiration allows users to change their own passwords from SharePoint without administrator intervention. This product also has a feature that notifies the end users about their password expiration date. It both can be done on the web part and also by sending the email. In this article you will learn how to exclude users from receiving the notification email.

Although the password will expire in 40 days, Denise Brooke or Administrator will not receive any confirmation email.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

The sample data we use for this case

The web part is added to the SharePoint site. For this article we added it to the site page called Password Change and Expiration. Also, web application outgoing email server settings in SharePoint Central Administration or the custom SMTP settings in the Password Change settings must be configured. You can check our other articles to get more information on how to add the web part and configure the custom SMTP settings.

Exclude users from receiving password expiration notifications emails

  1. Download the trial version of Password Change & Expiration and install it to your SharePoint server.

  2. Click on the Settings menu on the upper right corner of the page and click on Site Settings.

  3. Find Password Change & Expiration settings in the Site Collection Administration group and click on it.

  4. There is also another way to reach the Password Change Settings. First we need to go to the site where Password Change web part is added. Find Site Settings menu on upper right corner and click on Edit Page.

  5. You will see the web part changed to edit mode after clicking on Edit Page.

  6. Next step, click on small black triangle on the right side of the web part, next to the check box. After clicking you will see the drop down menu appear. Click on Edit Web Part.

  7. You will see the configuration settings box on the right side of the web part appear. Click on Click here to open password change notification settings page.

  8. The Password Change Settings page will open after following the steps 3 and 7.

  9. In this page we will only focus on Password Expiration Notification section. If we check the box next to the Password Expiration Notification and save the settings we will agree on sending the notification emails.

  10. After it is enabled, we will be able to configure other related features, such as Email notification schedule, Email content, CC/BCC to administrator and of course the Exempt users/groups. Let’s fill in the boxes as following. Decide to receive the email when 40 days are left before expiration date. You can get more information about how to configure the parts in other article. in this article we will focus on using Exempt users/groups.

  11. Exempt users/groups part which helps us to choose the users who will not receive the email expiration notification. Frist, we will simply need to fill in the user or group name in the box as following. For example let’s fill in Denise Brooke.

  12. After typing in the name click on sign located on the down right side of the box to check name. You will see following result after clicking on it.

  13. Let’s delete the name and try another method. You can click on sign to search for the name. After clicking the following window box will appear.

  14. Enter the name in the Find box and then press Enter.

    You will see the search result come out.

  15. Click Add-> and then OK to add the name to the Exempt users/groups box.

  16. You will see the result as following in the Exempt users/groups box.

  17. Now let’s click OK to save the changes and log in as Gabil. Then try to change his password. You can find the OK button on the down and upper right side of the settings page.

  18. As you can see there are 40 days left for Denise’s password to expire but no emails has been received.
