An error message shows in the solution page when deploying another solutions, in this case it’s Column/View Permission Lite:

Cannot add the specified assembly to the global assembly cache: SharePointBoost.ColumnViewPermisson.dll

Solution:

This is due to the previous installed product — Column/View Permission was not fully removed from the environment, when installing the Column/View Permission Lite, the error message shows.

The solution is:

  • to delete the dll mentioned in the error message ’SharePointBoost.ColumnViewPermisson.dll’ from gac directory(c:/windows/assembly)
  • or retract wsp with stsadm

After the above procedure, deploy the solutions of Column/View Permission Lite manually in Central Administration.

This issue might occur on the upgrading procedure for all products, the solutions can be applied for similar issues. Normally restart IIS or timer job would clear the incorrect dll from system, otherwise, we can delete the dll manually and run the setup again.
