SSL<\/strong> is a kind of security protocol that more and more web sites are using to protect their information. Similarly, SharePoint has a SSL feature that can be enabled in Central Administration. This blog will show you how.<\/p>\n

SSL Configuration<\/span>:<\/p>\n

Step 1. Server Roles<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong>1. Login to SharePoint <\/strong>Server as administrator.<\/p>\n

2. Open Server management and click “Server Roles<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n

3. In the Roles summary click “Add Roles<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n

4. Click the “Next<\/strong>” button and select “Active Directory Certificate Services<\/strong>” in the Select Server Roles window.<\/p>\n

5. Click the “Next<\/strong>” button until it configures and installs successfully.<\/p>\n

6. Select the following two role services “Certification Authority<\/strong>” and “Certification Authority Web Enrollment<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n

<\/a>7. Click the “Next<\/strong>” button.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Step 2. IIS Manager<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong>1. Run IIS manager as administrator.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/a>2. Double click this icon Server Certificates and enter the Server Certificates page.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/a>3. Click “Create Certificate Request in Actions<\/strong>” section.<\/p>\n

4. Open the “Request Certificate<\/strong>” window and input the correct data for every field.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/a>5. Click the “Next<\/strong>” button until the file name page appears.<\/p>\n

6. Specify the file name for the certificate request.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/a>7. Click the “Finish<\/strong>” button, the request file is created successfully.<\/p>\n

Step 3. CerSrv Site<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong>1. Open the CerSrv site to complete the task request a certificate.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/a>2. Click the Request a certificate <\/strong>link to open the new page.<\/p>\n

3. Click “advanced certificate request<\/strong>” to open the new page and click the second option “Submit a certificate request by using a base-64-encoded CMC or PKC…<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

<\/a>4. Copy the contents of the certificate file created on Step2.6<\/strong> to the textbox base-64-encoded certificate request.<\/p>\n

5. Select “Web Server<\/strong>” in the Certificate Template drop-down menu.<\/p>\n

<\/a>6. Click the “Submit<\/strong>” button. The will then be Certificate issued.<\/p>\n

7. Download the certificate.<\/p>\n

8. Click the “Complete certificate request<\/strong>” button.<\/p>\n

9. Select the “certification authority’s response” and “Friendly name<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n

<\/a>10. Click the “OK<\/strong>” button to create the server certificates.<\/p>\n

Step 4. Central Administration<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong>1. Expand the sites in IIS Manager and select “Central Administration<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n

<\/a>2. Click “Bindings<\/strong>” in the “Edit Site<\/strong>” section on the right side.<\/p>\n

3. The Site Binding Window will popup.<\/p>\n

4. Add the https<\/strong> type and select the SSL certificate.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/a>5. Add the access mapping in CA.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Note<\/span><\/strong>: Do not forget add the host record on DNS server.<\/p>\n

Step 5. Testing the Site<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong>1. Let’s access CA using the following URL https:\/\/www.spbmd10.com.<\/p>\n

Note<\/span><\/strong>: You might need to first import the certificate to the current browser.<\/p>\n

2. If you see the following, then we have successfully added SSL to a SharePoint website.<\/p>\n
